Hi I'm Zoe...The Cake Lady!

Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Zoe and I am the lady that makes all your lovely cake dreams come true. And yes.. I'm also known as "The cake lady"! Not by choice but I suppose its true.

It all started on my daughters 2nd birthday back in 2016 when I decided to make her birthday cake from scratch. And as you can imagine, it was an absolute monstrosity. But needless to say my daughter and family members thought it was pretty amazing at the time. Looking back I suppose it was considering I'd never iced a cake or made edible figures before. So proud I was, in that moment I realised I might have just found something I really enjoyed doing.

At the time I was working part time as a Receptionist and decided I could do this as a little hobby and just maybe I could do this for a JOB! An actual job that I actually enjoy! Little old me going from admin job to admin job dared to dream of a future career to be proud of.

You tube was my absolute best friend, night after night watching tutorials on how to master my craft. And the only advice I would give anyone wanting to start out is to practice. As much as you can, when you can. And before you know it over time you will see improvement. You'll learn your own way of doing things, you'll get quicker and you might actually start making a little bit of money.. like I did!

Don't get me wrong I have had some melt downs over the years when something hasn't gone as I hoped. Or the drip just doesn't drip the way it's supposed to... IYKYK! The biggest one I can remember was a Shopkins cake I did very early on. I'd made the cutest little donut figure for the top but boy could I get that bloody donut to stay stood up. I cried, actual tears. My husband entered to ask me what was wrong to which I responded (In floods of tears) "My donut just wont stand up". There was nothing he could do but hold me and reassure me that all would be fine. He was right, it was fine in the end but we do still sometimes refer back to that moment when I'm having a wobble... "It can't be as bad as the donut!".

Fast forward 8 years and here we are, full time Cake Maker! Still learning and still practicing. Working more hours than I can physically count but its so worth it. Although the job title needs a bit of working on because boy do I wear many hats now. Content creator, cake topper maker, customer service, cleaner, pot washer, admin assistant, accountant and I'm sure there is more! Hence more hours than I can physically count.

My most favourite cakes are pink.. obviously! Anything pink! And I suppose I don't really have a least favourite but sometimes the crazy obscure characters I get asked for do throw my brain a bit in to overdrive. They all come together in the end which is probably the biggest lesson I've learnt over the years...trust the process!
